Privacy policy
Your saved library is local first.
This policy explains how Whiteace AI Limited (“Whiteace AI”, “we”, “us”) handles information when you use the Bugg Me mobile application and this website.
Who controls your information
Whiteace AI Limited is the data controller for Bugg Me. Privacy enquiries and rights requests can be sent to privacy@buggme.com.
What stays on your device
Your Bugg library is stored in the app on your device. It can include saved URLs, titles, creators, notes, reminders, completion and rating choices, derived topics, activity history, and locally saved thumbnail files.
Bugg Me does not currently provide an account or cloud backup. You can export a portable copy from Profile and clear the library from the device. Removing the app or replacing the device can permanently remove data that you have not exported.
Information used to provide online features
When you request a preview, learning cue, recommendation, or book suggestion, the minimum relevant information may leave your device:
- A saved URL may be sent to the Bugg Me API and the original source to retrieve source-provided metadata.
- A URL, title hint, and optional “why I saved this” note may be sent through the Bugg Me API to OpenAI to produce structured topics and a memory cue.
- Derived topic signals may be sent through the Bugg Me API to YouTube, OpenAI, or Google Books to produce and quality-check recommendations.
- Your device may download a thumbnail directly from the original source or provider CDN so it can be stored privately for reliable offline display.
The current Bugg Me service has no server-side user-profile database. Application request bodies are processed to answer the request and are not intentionally written to a Bugg Me content database.
Technical information and service providers
Hosting and provider systems may process IP address, request time, endpoint, response status, and other limited technical logs needed to deliver and secure the service. We use service providers including Netlify for the API and public pages, OpenAI for optional enrichment and quality review, and Google services for YouTube and book results. Their processing may take place outside the United Kingdom under their contractual safeguards.
We retain information only for as long as necessary for the purpose described, security, legal obligations, or dispute resolution. Bugg Me does not use advertising SDKs or analytics SDKs and does not sell or use your information for cross-app tracking.
Why we process information
We process request information to provide features you choose to use and to operate the service. We process limited technical information for our legitimate interests in reliability, abuse prevention, cost control, and security. Where consent is the appropriate basis, you can withdraw it by disabling the optional feature or no longer using it.
Your choices and rights
You can export or clear your on-device library from Profile and control notification permission in system settings. Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, erase, restrict, object to, or receive a portable copy of personal information that we control.
Contact privacy@buggme.com to exercise a right. You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office or your local supervisory authority.
Children and changes
Bugg Me is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly seek their personal information. We may update this policy as the service changes. Material changes will be reflected here with a new effective date and, where appropriate, in the app.
